Many PBX manufacturers today invest a lot in integration of WiFi / GSM telephones
within their PBXs. This may be the future of the PBX business, but is it really so?
Hybrid WiFi / GSM systems integrated with a PBX have definitely the following
advantages:
. Company employees can use just one WiFi / GSM combining telephone set regardless
of where they go.
. An employee is always available regardless of where he or she currently is.
. The call cost is almost zero inside the company premises (if you move within the
reach of WiFi transceivers).
. Some standard PBX extension features are available in the GSM / WiFi handset if
the user is within the reach of the company WiFi network or a public GSM network.
All the above mentioned features and qualities are enormously important for any
company today. I believe that if all of them worked perfectly, these systems would
surely kill all DECT business, which forces you to carry two handsets with you all
the time. But let\'s have a realistic view. Is everything so positive and effective
as shown in many PBX manufacturers\' brochures? Let\'s have a look at the
disadvantages that combined WiFi / GSM sets integrated with a PBX may have today:
. The hand-over between transceivers is very problematic and inoperative in many
cases since the WiFi network is used only.
. There does not exist a hand over when moving out of the WiFi coverage to GSM.
. There is a poor voice quality when the WiFi part of hybrid WiFi / GSM telephones
is used, especially if the company doesn\'t dedicate enough bandwidth to this system.

. There is a high cost of WiFi transceivers and hybrid phones distributed among all
employees of the company.
The question that inevitably arises is: \"Is there really no solution to this?\" Of
